Turkey passport validity rules for Bulgaria citizens
The rule
Your passport must be valid for 150 days beyond your entry date (Turkish law: 60 days beyond the 90-day visa-free stay).
Also advised: 6 months from arrival, officially advised by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs โ airlines often apply this stricter standard at check-in.
By Turkish law (Law No. 6458, Art. 7.1b), your passport must be valid at least 60 days beyond your permitted stay. Most European travelers get a 90-day visa-free stay, so the passport must be valid for at least 150 days (about 5 months) from the day you enter. On top of that, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises 6 months of validity from arrival โ and airlines often apply this stricter standard at check-in.
A worked example
Say you fly to Turkey on 1 November 2026. Your passport must be valid until at least 31 March 2027. If it expires even one day earlier, the airline can refuse you at check-in โ this is the #1 reason travelers get denied boarding.
Donโt do this math by hand. Run the free 20-second check with your real dates and get a clear green, yellow, or red answer.
Also required for Turkey
- Most EU, Balkan, and North American nationalities can enter Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Some nationalities need an e-Visa โ check evisa.gov.tr for yours.

Passport too close to the limit?
Renewing can be faster than you think: most European countries offer an express service (often 1โ2 weeks) or same-day temporary passports, and US regional passport agencies (including Dallas and Houston) can issue a new passport within days for urgent travel. One caution: temporary or emergency passports are not accepted by every country โ check before flying on one.

What happens if my passport doesn't meet Turkey's validity rule?
The airline will normally refuse boarding at check-in โ this is the single most common reason travelers are denied boarding. If you board anyway, border officials can refuse entry on arrival. Renewing your passport before the trip is the only reliable fix.
